the earth is

turning under our toes

 

and in each toe

my heart beats

it’s a heavier beat

stretching to my last

toe

pushing through

through the small fingers and the small toes

 

we are beating

 

the earth is turning under our feet

and our

heart beats

mine slower

yours faster

as if making up for

one another

as if

still getting to know

each other

as if both trying

to keep up

with the world

spinning under our

toes
